The conjunction: sowohl... als auch (both... and)
The conjunction sowohl... als auch means: (both... and) or (as well as).
Example / Beispiel:
Der Schüler mag sowohl Deutsch als auch Englisch.
The pupil likes both German and English.
* However we can write this conjunction differently:
Der Schüler mag nicht nur Deutsch, sondern auch Englisch.
The pupil doesn't only like German but also English.
Exercise / Übung: Write the following sentences with the conjunction (sowohl... als auch)!
1- Der Mann liest nicht nur Romane, sondern auch Gedichte.
2- Die Massenmedien haben nicht nur positive Aspekte, sondern auch negative Aspekte.
3- Ich mag nicht nur Musik, sondern auch Theaterstücke.
4- Der Schriftsteller interessiert sich nicht nur für klassische Literatur, sondern auch für moderne Literatur.
